To Sorority Life,
Looking back on my college experience as a senior, there are many things I regret and some things I would never change. Joining a sorority is one of the things I would never change. That one moment that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and joined a sorority is something I have been so blessed to experience. I think every woman should have the chance to do so.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to find myself. Throughout these past two years, I have learned both the best and worst things about myself and have grown from each. Before joining a sorority, I thought I would get through college by myself, I wanted to get my degree and get out of there. I only saw one thing as success: getting the grades that I needed and graduating as soon as possible. I would have never thought how much my sisters pushing me has helped me reach my goals, and it is so much better with a community around me to celebrate it.
Thank you for giving me so many opportunities, from learning how to be a leader to allowing me to grow confidence in myself. I could have never imagined who I have become through sisterhood and sorority. I have pushed myself in more ways than I can count; I pushed through every social anxiety, every self-doubt and most importantly, every negative feeling. I not only learned to show up for my sisters but to show up for myself every day. There have been many times I wanted to quit, say “I’m too busy,” but my love for my sisters and organization brought me back every time.
Thank you for allowing me to find the people who love and accept me no matter how I show up. My sisters always supported me, even when I could only give about 10% of myself at our weekly chapter meetings, exhausted from everything else life has thrown at me. Every single time, I am welcomed with genuine love and care, and on the days my sisters are struggling and during their successes, we are there to lift each other up .I think every woman should experience that.
Thank you for showing me how to uphold myself in all aspects of life and prepare me for everything that comes my way. Throughout my collegiate sorority experience, I have had the pleasure of attending leadership conferences and national sorority meetings. An aspect that many don’t think of when it comes to the sorority experience. Through these, I have met the most genuine, welcoming and thoughtful women who have really helped me look at things through a different perspective and grow as a young professional.
Thank you for giving me opportunities I could have only dreamt of. Through being a part of sorority life I have been able to share my voice and perspective, strengthen relationships with childhood friends who are going through the same thing as me, and most importantly, lead me to women who I am blessed to have in my life.
