Trying to find a balance with just college work is hard enough, but when other responsibilities come into play, it becomes even more important to have a solid schedule and strong time management skills. Right now, I am on the executive board for my sorority as the Vice President of Finance and also studying for the LSAT (Law School Admission Test), so it can feel overwhelming at times. However, I have learned that this doesn’t have to be an impossible mission. By staying organized and breaking everything into smaller tasks, I have found that it is very attainable to manage both my academic and personal commitments.
I usually start my day early in the morning. The first thing I do is make myself a cup of coffee, which has become a small but meaningful routine. Those few minutes in the morning give me time to wake up, collect my thoughts, and reflect on what I want to accomplish that day. After that, I get ready for classes and make sure I have everything prepared in my backpack, like my planner, notebooks, and any readings I might need.
When I get to class, I focus on staying engaged and taking clear, detailed notes. I’ve realized that listening carefully during lectures saves me a lot of time later when I study. Once my classes are done for the day, I usually grab lunch or a quick snack before heading to the library or a quiet spot on campus. I dedicate at least an hour each day to LSAT prep, reviewing logical reasoning or practicing reading comprehension. That one hour makes a big difference because it helps me stay consistent and not fall behind.
In the late afternoon, I usually work on assignments or catch up on readings for my other courses. I like to keep a to-do list so I can check things off as I go, which keeps me motivated. Around this time, I also handle any responsibilities I have for my sorority, whether that means planning an event, answering messages, or attending an executive board meeting. Being part of leadership in my sorority has helped me improve my communication and time management skills, which actually carry over into my schoolwork.
In the evening, I like to mix productivity with social time. I often join study groups with my sorority sisters, which allows me to get work done while still spending time with friends. Studying together keeps us all focused, and it creates a supportive environment where we can help each other stay on track. Afterward, I take some time to unwind, whether that means watching a show, journaling, or calling my family.
Before going to bed, I review my planner again to make sure I’m ready for the next day. I find it helpful to review my schedule and mentally prepare for upcoming events, whether that’s an exam, a meeting, or another LSAT practice test. I believe it is crucial to learn how to balance college life and leadership. Don’t get me wrong, it is not easy, but with structure and consistency, I’ve found a rhythm that works for me. Every day is busy, but it feels rewarding to know that I’m staying on top of my goals and continuing to grow both academically and personally.
