Even though sorority recruitment isn’t about what you wear, picking out your outfits can feel like a daunting task. Just like in a job interview, spending that extra time to get ready sends non-verbal cues that you are excited and committed to the process. And whether you are shopping your closet, hitting up the local thrift store or buying something brand new, fashion is a fantastic way to show off who you are. Picking the right outfit can boost your confidence, allowing you to fully enjoy the process. If you aren’t intentional, what you wear can become a distraction from your experience and the conversations you are having. So, how do you pick the right outfit? Before you say yes to the outfit, we recommend doing these two tests.
Movement and Sit Test
We all have those outfits that look amazing while you are standing, but then you start moving or sit down and they just don’t feel the same. This test is to make sure that you can move comfortably in your outfit! Spend at least 15 minutes wearing your entire outfit, including your shoes, while walking, talking with your hands and sitting. Here are some things to be on the lookout for:
“Is this me?” Test
Sorority recruitment isn’t about fitting into a stereotypical “sorority girl” mold. It is about showing who you are and finding the sisterhood that loves and supports you. When picking your outfits, ask yourself, “Is this me?” Each round has a different level of formality, so look for ways to incorporate your style into that. Do you like clothes that are preppy, boho, sporty or grungy? Are you a fan of bold colors and big patterns, or do you prefer a simpler and classic look? No matter what your style is, pick outfits for each day that express who you are.
TSL Tip: Check out your University’s Panhellenic social media or website if you are looking for more guidance on the formality of each round and inspiration on what to wear .
Putting your outfits through these tests will allow you to be fully present. Fashion is a fantastic way to show who you are, but the focus of sorority recruitment isn’t about what you wear. The focus is on the conversations you have and the connections you make. Those connections are what will bring you to your future sisterhood!
