Meaning of the Sorority Membership Badge

"Being able to wear my badge signifies everything that my sorority has given me and everything that I strive to give back."

I never would have envisioned myself as being a sorority woman. Not because I never thought about joining a sorority, but because I always thought you had to fit a certain expectation in order to be in one. After going through the recruitment process and finding my home with Alpha Sigma Alpha, I knew that the only expectations they had were to give freely of myself and grow into the woman I wanted to be.

Joining Alpha Sigma Alpha and getting initiated was such a pivotal moment for me. Little did I know I had found a home and a group of women that I would get to call my lifelong friends. The moment when they pinned me with my badge was the moment it all clicked for me. We were told the meaning behind our badge and learning these secrets and the history behind what made Alpha Sigma Alpha what it is today was such an exciting memory for me.

What does my badge mean to me?

Being able to wear my badge signifies everything that my sorority has given me and everything that I strive to give back. It’s more than just the letters that I wear across my chest, but it’s a privilege to wear the badge that symbolizes what my sorority stands for. Wearing my badge makes me feel like a confident and empowered sorority woman.

“It’s more than just the letters that I wear across my chest, but it’s a privilege to wear the badge that symbolizes what my sorority stands for.”

When others see me wearing, I feel like they can tell that I’m proud to represent what my badge stands for. Even when I see other Panhellenic women and others in my fraternity and sorority community wear their badges, I know that they’re proud to wear and represent their organization as well. Every time I put it on, I remember that feeling I had when I was first initiated and what that moment meant to me. Wearing my badge makes me proud to be an Alpha Sigma Alpha and Panhellenic woman.
