Understanding commonly used language

As you learn more about sororities you may come across unfamiliar terms during different parts of your membership journey. We have broken down popular terminology into three different areas – recruitment, Panhellenic and chapter operations.

All women who join a sorority participate in recruitment.

During recruitment, you might hear terms that you don’t know. We’ve compiled the most likely terms that you will hear so you can enter recruitment prepared.

Panhellenic Terms

College Panhellenics enable cooperation among sororities on campus.

Panhellenic promotes the growth of individual chapters and the sorority community and encourages the highest possible academic, social and moral standards.

Chapter Operations Terms

Sororities use a variety of terms in their chapter operations.

Once women join a sorority there are terms that will be used in their new member process.
